About The RGV News

The RGV News is an independent news aggregator for Texas's Rio Grande Valley. We bring the day's most important local headlines into one fast, easy-to-scan place — so you can stay caught up on what's happening across McAllen, Edinburg, Mission, Brownsville, Harlingen, Pharr, Weslaco and Starr County without hopping between a dozen sites.

What we do

Throughout the day we gather headlines from local newsrooms and public news feeds across the Valley, in English and Spanish. For each story we show the headline and the name of the original source, and we link you straight to that source to read the full article. We're a front door to the Valley's journalism, not a replacement for it.

Our standards

We draw on Valley newsrooms and other reliable sources, in English and Spanish, and we work to keep out junk, advertising and stories from outside the Valley. If you spot a mistake, such as a story in the wrong place or an error in a summary or a guide, tell us through the contact page (choose Correction). We review every report and correct what is wrong.

What we don't do

We do not republish full articles, and we don't claim ownership of any reporting. Every headline, summary and image belongs to the publisher that produced it, and clicking through always takes you to their site. If you're a publisher and you'd prefer a link be removed, just let us know and we'll take care of it promptly.

The RGV briefs

We publish the RGV Daily Brief, a short recap of the previous day's Valley news, along with weekly, monthly and yearly briefs. The Spanish edition publishes the weekly, monthly and yearly briefs. Each summary is written with AI assistance from the linked headlines and excerpts, in a neutral, factual tone, and every story in it links to the newsroom that reported it. The short summaries on our city and section pages are written the same way, and each one says so.

Our guides

We also keep these guides:

We check the guides against their sources regularly.
